Screams that linger
The screams echo through this house,
A child too young to know what it is about,
living in fear of what they will see next,
broken glass on the floor,
Broken hearts this is no safe home,
nowhere to feel safe in this warzone,
The howls haunting through the night,
The broken bones are proof of their fight,
A child who witnesses everything,
A matinee that keeps them afraid,
Their fist meeting,
The marks on their bodies,
Parents too broken to walk away,
Putting their abuse on display,
The children who pay the price,
Do you know how many of them have lost their lives?
Neglect an unwanted gift,
Given by both of their parents.
